Cage wholeheartedly adopts his cult stardom in this self-referential adventure. The Black Phone Horror
Derrickson's contained scarefest holds up well despite the lack of a continuation. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, multiple disappearances has left the children on edge. After Finney is taken by “the Grabber” and held captive in a dungeon, he anticipates a fatal end. However, the non-functional line in the room repeatedly calls, with spooky callers giving advice, and the prophetic visions of his sister Gwen could save him. A solid creepfest. Saturday 11 October, late evening, Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for greed in Showalter's delightfully tacky biopic of the disgraced TV preacher and her felon spouse. The actor portrays the venal Jim, who proclaims initially, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye commence profiting from the people's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and hypocrisy, however Chastain succeeds to present Tammy Faye with compassion. Next Tuesday, early morning, Film4
